November '10 - Student of the Month: Cole Hudspeth
Current Rank: Hong Di (Red Belt)
About Me:
am a peaceful and easy going guy, who enjoys the rush of adventure and the company of friends. The most highly regarded goal above all others that I wish to obtain is to one day, far from now, be able to reflect upon my life and truly feel content with the path that I have chosen.
How long have you been training in Kuk Sool Won™?
I have been training in, and learning the art of Kuk Sool Won for about a year and a half now. My attendance fluctuates from three to five days a week. In doing so, I am able to learn respect, concentration, as well as humility among many other things, and enjoy every second of it.
What made you join Kuk Sool Won?
I believe that the desire to become more in touch with my body, and the need for improvement in all areas and aspects of my life, whether it be physical or mental enhancement is what led me to become apart of the Kuk Sool Won of Kingwood family.
What do you like most about Kuk Sool Won™?
What I like most about the practice and application of this great martial art is how the circular and fluent, yet powerfully effective rhythmic motions and movements of Kuk Sool fuse together with the natural mechanics and resistance involved in the makeup of the human skeletal structure and flow of energy within the body.
What is your favorite Technique so far – and why?
Maek Chi Ki #14 & #15 are my favorite, as well as the Maek Cha Ki sequence. What makes them my favorite is catching by catching and re-direction of the opponents punch with my own block. A real test of hand-eye coordination.
What is your favorite Form (Hyung) so far – and why?
Right now, Go Geup Hyung is by far my favorite. The various combinations of footwork, balance, spins and kicking/punching sequences really test my spatial awareness.
What are your long term goals in Kuk Sool Won™?
Right now the only long term goals that I really wish to attain consist of attending college to study the world of botany, and proper nutrition of the human body . I believe that with the love and support of my family along with the teachings of Master Roper that I will one day reach my goals and be given the opportunity to construct my own Do Jahng and pass down the Martial Spirit and wisdom of Kuk Sool to further generations just as it was granted to me by a true master of Kuk Sool Won, Ji Do Kwahn Jahng Nym Richard Roper.
What is/has been your best accomplishment in Kuk Sool Won™?
Since I have began the practice of Kuk Sool Won I've slowly begun to understand more and more about the world around me and the people in it. I have now grasped the true meaning and philosophy behind the exercise of Martial Art. I apply my experiences, as well as the physical and mental strength I have acquired in the Do Jahng to analyze and overcome the situations and obstacles of everyday life. The study and practice of the Martial spirit has lead me closer to inner peace and tranquility , which I feel each day I survive, and has allowed a sense of well being to fall upon my soul.
